If you want to invite an external agency, expert, or developer to your Shopify store, you need to share a partner access code (4-digit code). This code ensures that only authorized individuals can securely access your store. In this
guide, we explain in detail the steps for finding your Shopify partner access code and creating a new one.
Where Can I Find the Shopify Partner Code?
You can easily access the partner code from your Shopify admin panel.
If you are logged into Shopify, you can click this link: https://admin.shopify.com/settings/organization-account/security
Follow
these steps in order:
- Log in to your Shopify admin panel.
- Go to the Settings section in the bottom left menu.
- Click on the Users & Permissions tab.
- If your Shopify account is linked to an organization, this tab may only appear as Users.
- On the page that opens, click the Security tab.
- In the Collaborators section, you will see your 4-digit collaborator access code.
- You can copy the code and share it with the person who will send the access request.
Creating a New Partner Code or Changing an Existing Code
You can change your current partner code for security or access management purposes. To do so, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings → Users & permissions → Security tabs.
- In the Collaborators section, click on the "Generate new code" option.
- Shopify automatically generates a new 4-digit code.
- Note: When a new code is generated, the old code becomes invalid.
If Your Shopify Panel Is in English
If your Shopify admin panel is set to English, you can follow the English menu steps below (instructions are in Turkish):
- Go to Settings → Users & permissions in your Shopify panel (or Users, if you are using an organization account).
- Click on the Security tab.
- You will see your 4-digit partner access code in the Collaborators section. Click on it to copy the code.
- Use the Generate new code option to create a new code. When a new code is generated, the old code becomes invalid.
Recommendations for Secure Use
- Share your partner code only with trusted individuals.
- Enhance security by changing your code at regular intervals.
- Once the collaboration is complete, don't forget to remove partner access permissions.
BONUS: How to Request Access to a Customer Store as a Partner?
The following steps allow you to request collaborator access to your customer's store through a Shopify Partner account. For this process, you need to obtain a 4-digit partner access code from your customer (as explained in the guide above).
Step-by-Step Access Request
- Log in to the Shopify Partner
Dashboard at partner.shopify.com → sign in. - Go to the Stores
page. Left menu: Stores. - Initiate an access request: Click Add store
→ Request access in the top right corner.
(In some interfaces, you may see a direct Request access button.) - Enter the store information
- Store URL (myshopify.com address): e.g., customer-store.myshopify.com
- 4-digit Partner Access Code: The code provided by your customer under Security → Collaborators.
- Select the necessary permissions Only check the accesses you need
.
E.g.: Orders, Products, Themes, Apps, Settings, etc.
(Requesting broad permissions may extend the approval time; be specific.) - Add a message/note
Write a brief summary: what task you need access for, the estimated scope, and duration.
Example: "Access to Theme + Online Store editor for theme optimization and speed improvement." - Submit the request Submit
the request using "Submit request." The customer will see the request in the Shopify panel and approve it. - Use access after approval
Once approved, the store will appear as a Collaborator in the Stores list in your Partner panel. You can access the store with a single click from here
.
Important Notes and Tips
- Code required: You cannot submit an access request without a 4-digit code. If the code changes, the old code becomes invalid.
- Minimum permission principle: Only check the necessary boxes; this increases trust and speeds up approval.
- Plus/Organization accounts: The approval flow may fall to the organization administrator; ask the customer in advance who will approve.
- Email notification: Your customer receives an email when a request is received; they can also view it in Settings → Users (& permissions) → Collaborators.
- Post-access cleanup: Once the job is complete, remind the customer to remove your collaborator access or narrow the permissions.
